I think reading is important for many different ways — I really can’t imagine my life without it!

Reading science is important for my job — I want to know what other people have discovered and how they think of things. That helps me think and ask the right questions and find a good way of answering them. I also like reading about science that is not directly related to my work because I like to know things about the way in which nature and the world work!

Reading philosophy is also very important for a researcher. It helps us find the right way to ask questions! There is not much point in trying to answer scientific questions that are bad questions right?!

Reading fiction is something I enjoy a lot! It triggers my imagination, it makes me try to imagine how the characters on the book look and sound like, picture places I have never seen, or even imagine places that don’t exist!

I also like reading the news and politics because I like to be informed about what is going on around us all!

I think that by reading we create a little bridge between ourselves and the person who wrote the book we are reading. In some ways, books allow us to have conversations with people we have never met, or even people that are now dead.

      🙂

I am a book worm and love reading since I was really young. I even liked reading encyclopaedias, before Wikipedia was available.

As Zena said, in science we have to read all the time, so we can learn about what else is being researched all over the world.

But I also find that reading books in other field is very important. I like reading fiction because it helps my imagination, history books because I love to know about the past, philosophy books because it is really important to help us think as a scientist, biographies because I like learning about how people lived in other periods of history,. I am particularly keen to read about the history and biography of women.
