At the moment I’m trying to understand a strange result from an experiment in our research department that suggests the surface of water is either more dense or more structured than we previously thought. Obviously it’s pretty tricky to “see” water molecules to find out what’s really going on as they’re so small, but I can build a simulation on the computer to try and predict what they are doing.

So far its been tricky to develop ways to mathematically link together data from our simulation containing only around 10,000 molecules with the experimental results that involve billions of molecules. However, it’s fun to have a challenge and ask questions that have been overlooked in the past.
